top_view.jpg
top_view.jpgTop View20 viewsThis is looking down on what seems to be the top or show surface of this tool. The corners are rounded, and a decorative groove is worked along each edge the length of the tool. In this view, the spring arm assembly can be seen with the spring screwed to the side and anchored on the right end by a pivot screw. An unthreaded thumb peg is seen on the other end of the assembly. A steeply sloping chamfer is cut forming what appears to be the exit as it falls away from the edge of the blade.Sgt42RHR

Washington_Bed_Conservator_photo_of_partially_folded_bed[1].jpgHow the bed folds and unfolds314 viewsThe conservator sent me this photo which provides an excellent view of the relationship of the parts to the whole. Captured here in the midst of a fold/unfold you can see the necessary scissoring action of the side rails, the rounded stub tenons at the corners and in the middle of the side rails, and the folded legs and posts. My next challenge will be to cut the mortises in the center ends of the side rails. I can also see in this detail that the center side rail hinges are mortised into the side rails Sgt42RHR

Starrett_combo_square_and_cross_pein_hammer_rehab.JPGStarrett combo square and cross pein hammer164 viewsGalootaclaus sent the handle he had made(Thank you!!), with a little fitting and a walnut wedge I've a nice old hammer. The top is stamped 5 and there is a two line stamp in the metal but it is very deep and hard to read, I can make out a couple of letters maybe. The little Starrett square was badly corroded, but cleaned up nicely.Sgt42RHR

Cabinet_front.jpg
Cabinet_front.jpgCabinet front closed152 viewsThe carcase and frame is all made from a single 40 year old air dried Appalachian black walnut board. The two panels are resawn and book matched from a single off cut of Indiana black walnut saved from the burn pile. The finish is four coals of 1-pound cut amber shellac, well rubbed out with 0000 steel wood after each coat. The whole is finished with a coat of Liberon brown paste wax. The knob is an ebony violin tuning peg. Closure is achieved by a rare earth magnet and a steel screw.Sgt42RHRJan 08, 2018
