IMG_0749.JPGDosch Universal Cutter166 viewsObtained at an estate sale. Needs a good cleaning. Blades are dull and need to be resharpened.jjl134

IMG_3249.jpgSargent "Hercules" Plane139 viewsNo markings on casting other than "Made In USA". The number 5272 is stamped on the bottom side of the frog. No markings on the lever cap. Measures 9-1/2" L by 2-1/8" W with a 1-7/8" wide blade. Tote is cracked but otherwise this takes a pretty good shaving. Does this plane have a model number or style by which to call it? Blade is stamped "Sargent and Co.", "Hercules".jjl134

IMG_0884.JPGMarking Gauge - side71 viewsCutter is ground from a concrete nail, to a point at the bottom end and to a knife edge at the top. Care need be taken to get the point and the edge into alignment. One setting of the head is then used for cross- and with-grain marking.jjl134

IMG_3301.JPGScrap Lumber Spring Pole Lathe199 viewsWhat better way to honor George and Abe than to make something seriously galootish. Besides, I had to clear up some space in the garage er, workshop. This is made from common construction lumber, nailed together. I will get around to permanently affixing the tool rest next weekend. Do NOT attempt to turn anything other than green, freshly cut wood with one of these! Crikey, what a workout.jjl134
