gc2014.jpgFrom my GC, Rudy Desjardins80 viewsA great haul, from left: the "American Blacksmithing, Toolsmiths' and Steelworkers' Manual" by Holmstrom and Holford, a pre-Bahco Öberg 14" single-cut smooth mill file, a 1" Keen Kutter firmer chisel re-handled by James Thompson (the old Millrat), and a vintage Marples & Sons 3/8" outcannel gouge. Thanks, Rudy!madwing

Tonge_Vise_-_Left_side.JPGWagon Tongue Vise - Left Side88 viewsWhen I bought my 1946 Ford Truck I was telling the owner about my amateur blacksmithing. He pulled this vise off of a shelf and gave it to me because he said he would never use it.OldSneelock
axforging.jpgA Blacksmith's Apprentice169 viewsAlexander with Michael at Michael's portable "Know Nothing" forge. He was thrilled to be able to try "blacksmithing"...Thanks, Michael! In this picture also stands Greg "Thor" Isola, wondering why Alexander's not using Tom Holloway's 38 oz. hammer.madwing
axnail.jpgFor want of a nail...144 viewsOne was made. Alexander with his nail, his first attempt at forging. He'd asked me if he could do some "blacksmithing" a couple months back, and when I told him he'd be able if he came to the Bagathon, he was on it like a kid offered a trip to the candy store. Michael (to the left) looks on his newest apprentice with great pride; he was a great help to Alexander, and a great teacher, very patient and made it fun. Also in this picture, host Larry McVoy's eldest, whose name I think is Troy.madwing
anvilstand.jpgMy anvil stand237 views This anvil stand is made out of 4 pieces of 2x4 and a few scraps of plywood. It was dead cheap to make, and it works fabulously. Dead stable. The 'side' pieces of plywood were left long so they 'hug' the bottom of the anvil and hold it in place. It hasn't rocked yet no matter how hard I pound on it. The anvil is a Peter Wright, and just over a hundredweight, so it's not going to move without a bit of persuasion, anyway. The anvil sits on the ends of the pieces of 2x4 which form the feet.Metalworker Mike
