gc2017.jpgGC 2017 Gifts51 viewsA hearty "thank you" to my gifter, Stuart Minuskin. Inside the flat rate box was a Chris Vesper chip-carving knife, a new headlamp, a pocket Stanley Tool reference book, a nicely turned pen, a calendar from Queensland for the shop, and a "The Tool Exchange" t-shirt. Merry Christmas, Stuart!madwing
20131029_3488ss.jpgSpiers Panel Plane w parallel 5/32" Sorby iron415 viewsEven though I can slip 0.046 inches of feeler gauge into the mouth, it can consistently produce cherry shavings between 0.001 and 0.002 inches - provided the cap iron aka chip breaker is set back the absolute minimum my eyes can detect - with magnification. Would a tighter mouth make it any more useful?Schwartz

6c_tote.jpgTote130 viewsCan't believe I found this under all of the grime. no chips, cracks. This was only a light cleaning with mineral spirits and wax. No stripping or sanding required. Brentpmed

blanket_chest_front_view.jpgFront View161 viewsIIRC these are Ball & Ball Chippendale escutcheons and drops, and because I wanted a more used patinated effect for the chest, I got these in an antique brass finish. I cut faux key holes and blackened the insides. To add the the patina, between the fourth and fifth coats of 1 pound cut amber shellac I brushed on a light coat of brown sludge gleaned from the bottoms of near empy stains I had lying around. I then wiped the glaze off vigorously, leaving only shadowy, dirty lines at joints and fillets; this seemed to add depth to the finish as well.Sgt42RHR
Glue_up_of_Earle_s_Chair_back_assembly.jpgGlue up of Earle's Chair224 viewsThis is the back assembly of Earle's Chippendale era folding side chair, I just finished final shaping of the legs, back posts, backsplat, and crest rail and glued it all together.Sgt42RHR
100_4071.JPGSpear & Jackson DT saw24 viewsNice little 10 inch S&J saw that I picked up at the Crosby Flea Market on July 9 2011. Couple of chips off the horns, in need of straightening and sharpening. Wish I had this a couple days earlier when I needed it...dlarue
006.JPGCap Iron/Chip Breaker and Beading Blade26 viewsThe Cap Iron mounts in the front for Bullnose work and in the back for open areas.
The Beading Blade came mounted in the back position. I'm told that a Beading Blade is not a normal item for this plane.
606Centire.jpgWith #6 blade/chipbreaker/lever cap65 viewsGently cleaned and reassembled. I put the blade, etc., there for the photo. Kirk Eppler is getting me a blade/chipbreaker/lever cap for it from a different #6, and if i like how it runs I'll Hock it (blade and chipbreaker).madwing
