13_IMG_4270s.jpgFront corner detail100 viewsTwo crudely-filled 3/8 in. round holes in each front corner post suggest the missing columns were supported by dowel pins through the front of the chest. The columns were 'engaged', having a small flat on their hidden side. Note cock-beading on drawer fronts. Schwartz

12_IMG_4294s.jpgGhost of missing columns.105 viewsThe underside of the 'ears' at the front corners of the top show that columns once stood at the front corners of the chest. The columns were 'engaged', having a flat cut on the back. They were attached to the front corners with hidden 3/8 inch dowel pins, the remnants of which remain. They likely rested on a 'stool' with ears or a deeper base, but that's missing too.Schwartz

Chapman_Movable_Forge_Treadle_Grinder_Clutch.JPG
Chapman_Movable_Forge_Treadle_Grinder_Clutch.JPGTreadle Grinder Clutch95 viewsFrom the looks of the layout there was a strap attached to the two screws on the left hand hub of the clutch. When the pedal is pushed down the strap unwinds causing the clutch to engage and rotate the shaft and large flat belt pulley. When the pedal is released the clutch ratchets back and resets for another pulse.

Using_a_frame_saw_to_multiply_by_dividing.JPGUsing a frame saw to multiply by dividing174 viewsThe frame saw I built with walnut scraps from the folding bed project worked great! I gaged a pretty deep line around each board and sawed to the line. I was able to get 5/16" thick stuff after I planed the saw marks away.Sgt42RHR
