Cabinet_front.jpg
Cabinet_front.jpgCabinet front closed133 viewsThe carcase and frame is all made from a single 40 year old air dried Appalachian black walnut board. The two panels are resawn and book matched from a single off cut of Indiana black walnut saved from the burn pile. The finish is four coals of 1-pound cut amber shellac, well rubbed out with 0000 steel wood after each coat. The whole is finished with a coat of Liberon brown paste wax. The knob is an ebony violin tuning peg. Closure is achieved by a rare earth magnet and a steel screw.Sgt42RHR

IMG_3650.jpgWhen the sixth box delivery of the day was slit open .. 17 views... the contents definitely were not the other item being awaited for the day's shipments. No indeed, a whole cubic foot of mahogany shavings tried to escape onto the family room furniture and carpet, but were quickly forced back inside. A quick check of the shipping label revealed the culprit .. err ... Elf over in Asheville NC had been at work. A little creative stretching of an elfin sack, and six objects nicely wrapped in holiday paper appeared from within the shavings.Charlie Driggs
