So over the next
couple years, I accumulated a number of stones. I tended to stick to the name
brands, Pike and Norton, both because of their reputation for high quality,
and the ability to approximate the stone's age. I obtained old catalogs for
both firms and learned the difference between old and older Nortons. (Of course,
all Pike's are old, since the firm sold out 70 years ago). The following is
a purely subjective description of my findings:
