He was born Jan. 9, 1951, in Carrollton, the son of Paul and Cathryne Branham Schobernd. He married Elizabeth Hanks on Aug. 19, 1972, in Hardin. She survives.

He is also survived by his parents of Dorchester; sons, Zachary (Kelly), Bloomington; Zebulon (Christina), Ocean Springs, Miss.; and Zekiel (KaDee Stroleny), Aurora, Colo.; granddaughters, Kiva and Zara Schobernd, both of Bloomington; sisters, Deborah Boozer, Alton, and Karen (Keith) Harris, Dorchester; his in-laws, Paul and Loretta Hanks, Hardin; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was a graduate of Calhoun High School, Eastern Illinois University and Illinois State University.

He was a teacher and school principal for many years and last worked as a placement officer at ISU.

He loved his family passionately and was an avid collector of antique tools, books and weird stuff.

From Jim -- for whatever reason, Paul and I corresponded frequently. He was quite eloquent and I shall miss our exchanges. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

avatar When I started reading some of Paul's letters to the Galoots, I noticed that my
own name came up a few times. I didn't correspond a lot one-on-one with Paul,
but we seemed to follow and discuss the same topics a lot. I wish we could have
met in real life. I bet we would have had some great debates.
