Cabinet_front.jpgCabinet front closed152 viewsThe carcase and frame is all made from a single 40 year old air dried Appalachian black walnut board. The two panels are resawn and book matched from a single off cut of Indiana black walnut saved from the burn pile. The finish is four coals of 1-pound cut amber shellac, well rubbed out with 0000 steel wood after each coat. The whole is finished with a coat of Liberon brown paste wax. The knob is an ebony violin tuning peg. Closure is achieved by a rare earth magnet and a steel screw.Sgt42RHR

bagpipe_case_crotch_grain_top.jpgWalnut crotch grain lid131 viewsThis lid came from an off-cut from another project. I sawed it in half, book matched it, planed it to 1/2 inch. I think the figure looks like one of those Siamese fighting fish. Five coats of 1 pound cut amber shellac, an ebony glaze wiped on and off, and then a couple of coats of satin wiping varnish. Pad_saw_-_about_14_inches_long.JPGEbony and brass pad saw167 viewsHandle appears to be ebony, the overall length is about 14 inches, although it appears that some of the tip of the blade is broken off. The screw securing the brass ferrule to the handle is oversize and appears to be a modern replacement. The blade is surprisingly sharp.Sgt42RHR
