Massachusetts_low_chest_drawer_pull_hardware.jpg
Massachusetts_low_chest_drawer_pull_hardware.jpgDrawer pulls87 viewsAll hardware was bright brass from Ball & Ball. I painted it all with gun bluing which turned it black, then I steel wooled and polished with Simichrome polish which left patina in the deep recesses and hard to reach spots. In this view, one can also see the effect of the dark glaze applied in the fillet of the thumbnail moulding around the drawers.Sgt42RHR

6_c_left_side.jpg6C left121 viewsThe picture shows some staining/patina, but no real pitting. This was covered in rust. Cleaned with mineral spirits, razor blade and scotch brite pads. I elected not to take it back to brite, I like the patina of use. Brentpmed

blanket_chest_front_view.jpg
blanket_chest_front_view.jpgFront View161 viewsIIRC these are Ball & Ball Chippendale escutcheons and drops, and because I wanted a more used patinated effect for the chest, I got these in an antique brass finish. I cut faux key holes and blackened the insides. To add the the patina, between the fourth and fifth coats of 1 pound cut amber shellac I brushed on a light coat of brown sludge gleaned from the bottoms of near empy stains I had lying around. I then wiped the glaze off vigorously, leaving only shadowy, dirty lines at joints and fillets; this seemed to add depth to the finish as well.Sgt42RHR
spearjackson_button.jpg
spearjackson_button.jpgspearjackson button81 viewsThere is a decorative button on the top horn which tops off a dowel that runs down through the handle, presumably to make the handle stronger. You can't read it in this photo, but on it is printed: Patent (I can't make out all of the numbers)

The button may be ivory, it has that patina and checks in it, but it could be some other material. The pin holding the button in place may be brass.

IMG00019-20100313-1020.jpgPATINA 2010 -- unusual sight56 viewsPouring rain, and nobody outside hawking tools. Nobody. Back around the corner of the building, there were reputedly several courageous types, but not in the rain and mud of the parking lot.Charlie Driggs

IMG00020-20100313-1022-1.jpgPATINA 2010 63 viewsInside, it was a different case altogether. Plenty of buyers, tool ooglers, & sellers, and more women buyers than I've ever noticed before.Charlie Driggs
Sewing_cabinet.jpg
Sewing_cabinet.jpgStuff36 viewsThis is a sewing cabinet that I copied from a broken antique. It has a faux finish because I was not happy with the wood color match when I was finished. I actually like this finish better because it has the look of an authentic antique, minus all the patina.
See? I do other things besides carving and turning.
