folding_cot_overall.jpgAnother original folding cot184 viewsThis had a head and foot board at one time. Also, there are ghost prints of mortise & tenon stretchers between the bottoms of the legs as in the previous print. As in many 18th century examples of portable furniture, there is relatively little variation among exisitng examples of originals.Sgt42RHR

Chapman_Movable_Forge_Treadle_Grinder_Clutch.JPGTreadle Grinder Clutch101 viewsFrom the looks of the layout there was a strap attached to the two screws on the left hand hub of the clutch. When the pedal is pushed down the strap unwinds causing the clutch to engage and rotate the shaft and large flat belt pulley. When the pedal is released the clutch ratchets back and resets for another pulse.

axforging.jpgA Blacksmith's Apprentice169 viewsAlexander with Michael at Michael's portable "Know Nothing" forge. He was thrilled to be able to try "blacksmithing"...Thanks, Michael! In this picture also stands Greg "Thor" Isola, wondering why Alexander's not using Tom Holloway's 38 oz. hammer.madwing

picture%20152.jpgMission style end table with inlay band and drawer25 viewsHere's a photo of an end table I made from red oak and red maple milled from trees grown on our property. We staged all the logs then had a sawyer with a portable mill come in to do the milling. We also handled the cants and boards as they came off the mill. Hard work but very rewarding when the end result is building furniture from wood from home!llesniak
