Wax_model_w_sprues.jpg
Wax_model_w_sprues.jpgWax model with sprues57 viewsThe wax model has a number of sprues (red) attached and is placed into a steel cylinder which is filled with investment... a high-temp. plaster.
The wax is burned out, leaving a hollow mold into which molten metal is poured.

low_angle_plane-rough.JPGPlane body,rough39 viewsThis is a typical casting right out of the investment.
On the right is the button and the "sprues" which feed the molten metal into the mold. The white stuff is the plaster investment material which still needs to be cleaned off. On the left you can see flashing, caused by the mold cracking. This was easily removed and did not affect the quality of the finished body.
