Lathe_boring_tool.jpgBoring tool for wood lathe32 viewsThis is the complete tool. The piece with the tapershank attached is the only piece that does not move.
Articulation is made easy using shoulder bolts for the pins in 2 locations.
By using the articulation you can easily clean out the wood that occupies the center of a bowl. Because the cutting is continuous I find it faster to use than a bowl gouge.Oldmillrat

Lathe_boring_tool_5.jpgBoring tool for wood lathe38 viewsAt a woodturner's club meeting I saw a special tool designed by another turner. It was for sale for $250. I couldn't afford that, But I could certainly make one of my own. Mine is different in that my tool plugs directly into the tailstock, while the original bolted to the ways.
The solid 1" square bar next to the cutting tool rides on the tool rest. The tool is adjustable in both planes. The tool is a hig speed bit for a metal lathe.Oldmillrat
