punches.JPG
punches.JPGForged for blacksmithing class109 viewsthese were made from steel drawn off of a jackhammer bit. on the right is the first tool, a 1/4" round punch. on the left is a 1/8" x 5/8" slit punch. they are ready for hardening and tempering.madwing
pinkstone.jpg
pinkstone.jpgPink, hard sharpening stone169 viewsI picked this up at an estate sale, with the triangular stones. It's remarkably hard, and polishes very much like a hard arkansas stone. I don't know if it's natural (I've never seen this color before in nature) or man-made, but it puts a nice polished, sharp edge on steel.madwing
slotstones.jpg
slotstones.jpgSlotted, triangular sharpening stones184 viewsI picked these up at an estate sale, along with a Pfeil 1/8e carving chisel. They're triangular in cross section, look like hard arkansas and black hard arkansas stones, and each has a v-shaped groove in one edge. They can be easily removed from this holder, and rotated so their flat edges can be worked.madwing
jvise.jpg
jvise.jpgJeweler's Vise150 viewsHere it is, a cute little bug of a thing. The clamp holds it well on the bench, and the big nut was added (I think) to tighten it down more easily when swivelling it; the wingnut shows signs of being overtorqued.madwing
jvisewidth.jpg
jvisewidth.jpgJeweler's Vise - Overall length86 viewsIt's about 7 inches from the head of the vise screw holding the handle to the foot of the screw under the anvil.madwing
jviseheight.jpg
jviseheight.jpgJeweler's Vise - overall height55 viewsFrom the bottom of the bench clamp to the top of the jaws it's 6" tall.madwing
jvisejaws.jpg
jvisejaws.jpgJeweller's vise - jaw width57 viewsThe jaws are 2.5" wide, and pretty well lined up. They move smoothly. I might draw file them just to clean up the faces.madwing

IMG_1761.jpgWilton corner vise with mahogany chops120 viewsI finally got the vise mounted and the chops on. I made the mouldings with the hollows and rounds I got from Jim O'Brien for 2009 Galootaclause...madwing
sillinplace.jpg
sillinplace.jpgSill install - in place120 viewsI still had to nail on the bullnose molding to the vertical corners of the window opening and obviously the plasterwork needs to be done. madwing
sillworkmutt.jpg
sillworkmutt.jpgSill install - my type 1 workmutt130 viewsI scored this for a great price in early 2013 from craigslist, and it's perfect for this kind of work. Clamping for chiselling, sawing, and scraping, and it didn't let me down.madwing
silltools.jpg
silltools.jpgSill install - tools used136 viewsThe different saws, chisels, planes, and whatnot I used on the workmate to prepare the sill in the background for installation.madwing
