Head_and_foot_board_pin_detail.jpgHead and footboard pin detail245 viewsThe head and footboards are affixed to the side rails by means of oak pins, 5/8 inch at the bottom. The pins are each attached to the head and footboards by a single rosehead nail clenched. This allows the pin to move slightly as the side rails move. It also allows the pins to swivel out of the way for travel.Sgt42RHR

folding_cot_overall.jpg
folding_cot_overall.jpgAnother original folding cot184 viewsThis had a head and foot board at one time. Also, there are ghost prints of mortise & tenon stretchers between the bottoms of the legs as in the previous print. As in many 18th century examples of portable furniture, there is relatively little variation among exisitng examples of originals.Sgt42RHR
