molding_profile.JPG
molding_profile.JPGFinished profile55 viewsThis is the finished profile. The hardest part is always the transition on the ogee from hollow to round. I usually end up just saying "OK good enough" and give up on it. All that needs to be done now is to bevel off the corners so it will sit properly where it is supposed to go...dlarue

molding_plowed.JPG
molding_plowed.JPGMolding Plowed51 viewsThe main concave parts have been sunk with a plow plane. This gives the round planes somewhere to register. The planes have no fences or depth stops.dlarue
molding_planes.JPG
molding_planes.JPGMolding Planes63 viewsHollows & rounds and a skew rebate plane.
This is all you need to make this molding.
Actually, I also used a block plane and a shoulder plane. My bad.

molding_layout.JPGMolding Layout43 viewsHere's the layout of the molding I want to make. This is just a rough guide. If things go well, it will look like I followed this layout. Otherwise, I just get what I get.dlarue
molding_done.JPG
molding_done.JPGMolding Done47 viewsHere's the finished molding. I knocked the corners off with a drawknife and planed down to my layout with a Stanley #4 smoother.
The molding is propped up at the angle it will be installed at, with some oblique lighting to highlight the shape.
