folding_cot_overall.jpg
folding_cot_overall.jpgAnother original folding cot184 viewsThis had a head and foot board at one time. Also, there are ghost prints of mortise & tenon stretchers between the bottoms of the legs as in the previous print. As in many 18th century examples of portable furniture, there is relatively little variation among exisitng examples of originals.Sgt42RHR

Folding_cot_frame2.jpgCot frame is finished199 viewsWe have glued and drawbore pinned each of the 8 mortise and tenon joints with 3/8" oak pins we made. The legs and side rails are 1.75 inches square red and white oak.Sgt42RHR

Head_and_foot_board_pin_detail.jpg
Head_and_foot_board_pin_detail.jpgHead and footboard pin detail245 viewsThe head and footboards are affixed to the side rails by means of oak pins, 5/8 inch at the bottom. The pins are each attached to the head and footboards by a single rosehead nail clenched. This allows the pin to move slightly as the side rails move. It also allows the pins to swivel out of the way for travel.Sgt42RHR

Another_Camp_Bed_End_View-1.jpgHeadboard/footboard detail168 viewsIn this original, note how the head/footboard are attached to the rails. Note there is only 1 nail attaching the vertical pins to the head/footboard.Sgt42RHR
Another_Camp_Bed_1.jpg
Another_Camp_Bed_1.jpgStretchers between legs178 viewsIn this funky original, note the stretchers that are mortised and tenoned into the legs at the bottom. This cot (as is almost every original) is quite high (30 - 36 inches). We are planning on only 20 inches high.Sgt42RHR
