Ferrule is converted compression nut. Since this is a prototype, there's no adornment (e.g., burned-in groves). Wouldn't show up very well on the dark wood anyhow, and the walnut seems rather too soft for this use. The cross section is scaled down from the first handle I made--it's 1" rather than the 1 1/8" used previously. The wood is white oak, chosen because I happened to have a piece of 5/4 scrap available.
