009.JPGW Butcher chisel50 viewsI believe this to be the ugliest chisel I have yet to find. Keeping in mind this is still prety good British steel. The handle is the true caracter in this story. Whom ever put this together was either desperate for a handle or wasn't very clever in the ways of tool beauty. Either way it took a lickin and well judge for your self if it was a success.KellysW

NotFinished.jpgUnfinished261 viewsThis shows the condition of the original parts, plus the newly constructed legs stained with Minwax "English Chestnut," which I've found is pretty close to the A&C finish I'm looking for.Tom11

100_3121.jpg152 viewsRecord 52-1/2 vice bought new out of a basement for $50. There is also a flea market Record planing stop to the left of the vice. The bench top is upside down. I used 1/2" lags that go into the top 2-1/2" and that vice is going nowhere. The extra rounded piece is to extend the stationary jaw down to the bottom of the movable jaw.Ruby

Cabinet_front.jpg
Cabinet_front.jpgCabinet front closed152 viewsThe carcase and frame is all made from a single 40 year old air dried Appalachian black walnut board. The two panels are resawn and book matched from a single off cut of Indiana black walnut saved from the burn pile. The finish is four coals of 1-pound cut amber shellac, well rubbed out with 0000 steel wood after each coat. The whole is finished with a coat of Liberon brown paste wax. The knob is an ebony violin tuning peg. Closure is achieved by a rare earth magnet and a steel screw.Sgt42RHRJan 08, 2018
