Butterfly_hinges_nailed_on_exterior.JPGButterfly hinges nailed on exterior220 viewsI bent the wings of the butterfly hinges to conform to the 6 inch radius of the trunk body. Marked and drilled 3/32 inch pilot holes for the rosehead nails using a recently restored Millers Falls No. 5 drill. I used the 4 pound sledge hammer as an anvil on the outside to clinch the nails on the inside.Sgt42RHR

Cutting_a_lock_mortise_on_a_round_trunk_body.JPGCutting the lock box mortise220 viewsI used a Stanley No. 71 router plane to excavate the lock box mortise. The round trunk body is 9/16th inch thick, the lock box mortise is 7/16th inch deep. The lock plate is curved to fit the 6 inch radius of the round trunk body.Sgt42RHR

Linen_lining_installed_and_trimmed-ready_for_the_leather.JPGExterior lining trimmed and ready for leather204 viewsNext step is to adhere the 2-3 ounce black leather to the trunk body--thereby hiding the really nice joinery that went into making this trunk!Sgt42RHR
